Build Project Log - Fuselage & Empennage

2/1/2009 2h Finished off the connection from the seat back to the bulkhead. Nothing for it to rest on yet. I got the parts out to connect on the bulkhead.

2/15/2009 2h I finished off the seat backs. Nice to get the rivet gun out and see that I was able to make nice rivets after three years of inactivity.

2/12/2009 11h Finished most of the seat backs with Fritz, though a few rivets got bent and we didn't quite finish off all of the rivets.

2/11/2009 1h Fritz Koenig motivated me to get back out and work on the plane. We spent an hour getting parts together and staged to work on the seat backs.

Long Break! from November of 2005 - February of 2009

11/6/2005 2h Everything on the left elevator is riveted and the trim servo plate is in place. Only things left, other than fiberglass is the trim tab connecting rod, and rolling the leading edge.

11/3/2005 0.75h I spent some more quality time with the plane. I was actually in a groove and probably could have gone for hours, but I need to get some sleep as well. I set a pop rivet to help hold the bend on the main part of the elevator, and then drilled and deburred the holes for the hinge connect on the elevator. In the last two pictures, you can see the trim tab connected with the temp hinge pin. Very exciting. =)

Previous Months
Feb 2005 41h February covered everything from getting the kit, to clecoing the first skin onto the horizontal stabilizer frame. All in all a good start to the project.

March 2005 37h March completed the horizontal stabilizer and brought the vertical stabilizer parts prepped as far as they could be without priming.

April 2005 18h Finished up the Vertical Stabilizer, ordered the quick-build fuselage and wings, and got the rudder to the deburring stage.

May 2005 13.5h Bad trend in the amount of time spent on project. I wonder if I should start counting all of the time I sit around thinking about it and drooling over avionics. This month continued progression of the rudder through dimpling the skins. I also crossed the 100 hour mark on the project.

June 2005 23h Finishing off the rudder. Started with primed parts and ended with a hopefully flyable rudder. Not a bad month all in all.

July 2005 1.5h Really slow month. Several weeks of vacation in here, but this does include a trip to Oshkosh.
Aug 2005 19.75h Another slow month in terms of progress. Started on the elevator stiffeners, ended on the elevator stiffeners. However, I did get the quick-build kit so all is not lost. It really looks like a plane now. =)

Sept 2005 26.75h A fairly good month. Great considering that Lily came along at the end of it.

Oct 2005 3.5h Yes, that's right, 3.5 hours this month. Hey, I just had a new kid, give me a break. =) In reality, I probably lost a little time this month. I hosed the first trim tab, and spent the little bit of time recovering back to a trim tab ready to line up with the elevator.
