Glenn Longley's RV 7A Project

2/19/2009 - Wow. Has it really been over three years since I really worked on this? Lily was joined by Kara so there are now two little ones at home. I finally picked up the project again, with a little prodding from Fritz Koenig. (Thanks.) I spent about 20 hours over the last week making the seatbacks and unpacking the small parts from the quickbuild kit that never made it out of their small brown paper sacks. Let's if I can keep this up!

I added the Project Log and removed the frames from this page to make it easier to load on the iPhone. =)

10/2005 - 02/2009 - Three year break!

11/2/2005 - Great new RV7 Community tool using Google Maps http://www.frappr.com/rv7

10/3/2005 - Goings are slowing down as Lily has arrived!

So here is the traditional question and answer:

Q: Why build a plane?

A: Because I can.

Okay, there is more to it than that. I do want to experience building a plane just for the sake of building a plane, but I also want something that is a little more fun to fly. I had part of C-172 - N80548 with my Dad. Great aircraft, but not real sporty.

I'm looking for the ability to go fast, maybe learn some formation work, and an occasional loop or roll. My stomach probably couldn't take much more than that.

Many thanks of course to my wife, Katy, who is surprisingly supportive of this effort. I bet I'll even convince her to help a little. =)

I went with the quickbuild option as seen the the left. It's build from the same parts as the slow build seen to the right, but it's sent to the Philippines to build most of the wings and fuselage.  The "typical" build time is anywhere from 1200-2000 hours for the normal kit, and the quick-build is supposed to save from 400-800 hours.
